- Why "Casimir"?
- Yes, it is a man's name. It's also my confirmation name. Casimir was a medieval Polish saint who defied his father when he ordered Casimir to march on an innocent country. I chose it because of his defiance and because it's not a typical choice.
- Your current occupation is secretary?
- Yes. I've been a part-time secretary for 8 years, and I am still a part-time secretary because it really annoys the hell out of my current supervisor. This doesn't mean that I actively do anything to annoy her. Just the fact that I exist apparently causes her grief. This also doesn't mean that I'm not looking for other employment. But the current job is only on weekends anyway, so I figure, what's a small investment of time compared to the benefits?
- So why did you get an English Literature degree?
- Simply put, I love words. I love manipulating them, playing with them, using them in new and very old ways, and seeing them come together in meaningful, beautiful text. Yes, I realize the big bucks aren't there, and that selling myself to employers has been made that much harder (so few realize that everyone needs good writers). All the same, the degree is very much a part of who I am.
- And the winner of the job hunt is...?
- For now, I am at AIW, or Alamo Iron Works, a very old San Antonio company. I'm a graphics assistant there, which means I work in their advertising department and produce their company newsletter, as well as work on other random graphics projects. So far, it's really interesting and actually a moderate amount of fun! One of the guys I work with took the color photo on this page with his digital camera.
